Newsletter Spring 2010 Hello and welcome to our first newsletter of 2010. Despite the recession rumbling on, we have
had some great attendances at our recent events. The Christmas show at Halesowen Members Club attracted its
usual large crowd and we performed several new arrangements for the first
time. We hope to repeat the event
this year. Theatre concerts seem to
be building back up. Our annual
concert at Solihull Arts Complex had a larger crowd than last year and our
recent appearance at the Artrix Arts Centre in Bromsgrove saw a near capacity
audience. A lot of the audience at
Bromsgrove were new faces. Although
its great to see familiar faces in the audience, it is a pleasure to see new
people coming along to our concerts.
Great signs for the future! September this year sees the start of the bands 40th
anniversary year! (Yes I know I look
young for my age!!!). I feel very
proud that we have survived this long in a very uncertain music market and we
are looking forward to many more years of bringing the music we love to play
to you. We are arranging a whole host
of events to co-incide with the anniversary but more of that later in the
year. Inevitably, people move on, and Ade Odedina has vacated the tuba
chair to pursue other opportunities.
We are pleased to welcome Eddie Frazer as his replacement and
he is already marking his mark anchoring the trombone section. Eddie has many years experience in a
variety of musical styles and I am sure he will be a big asset to the band. Below are details of events in the near future. Please check with the venue or with us
before travelling as quite often they are sell-outs. Worth a particular mention is our concert
at Bearwood Corks Club on 29th April. Always a popular night, it is a great
venue to see the band in action. Try
and get along to support us if you are free. We increasingly get bookings only a few weeks before the event,
so it is worthwhile checking back here frequently for any updates. Friday 9th
